AUTHORIZATION: Tennessee Valley Authority Act of 1933 (PL 73-17)
TYPE OF PROJECT: Operations and Maintenance for Navigation.
LOCATION: Chickamauga Lock is seven miles NE of Chattanooga and was completed in 1940. The lock is 60 feet x 360 feet and passes over 2 million tons of commodities annually.

BACKGROUND: Chickamauga Lock is seven miles NE of Chattanooga, Tenn. and was completed in 1940. The lock is 360 feet x 60 feet and passes about 1 million tons of traffic a year. An aggressive maintenance program (well beyond that normally conducted) is underway to extend the life of the lock. The work includes an extensive structural maintenance and instrumentation monitoring program.

SCHEDULE:
FY2012 Completed Work: During FY 2012, continue the aggressive maintenance program, perform dive inspections and dewatering to address the following: Rehab lower gate quoins, repair discharge ports, replace pintle seals, rehab floating mooring bits, replace trunnion jacks, install valve pit platforms, and replace lower miter fenders. Continued monthly monitoring and instrumentation program and reviewed finite element analysis models to verify the structural integrity of the lock.
FY2013 Scheduled Work: Due to budget availability, the Corps will only be performing minimal instrumentation monitoring and a dive inspection using carryover funds.
