Housing and Homeownership

Homeownership constitutes the bulk of wealth for the majority of American households and represents an essential stepping stone into the American middle class.  For generations, the American middle-class Americans has relied on their homes to safely raise families and as a path to achieving the American dream.

Ensuring that affordable housing remains a viable option for American families’ is an essential piece of the American dream and a goal that lawmakers must fight to keep to alive.  The collapse of the housing industry, on the precipice of the 2008 credit crunch, presented some formidable challenges to that dream.  However, government plays a critical role in healing the nations’ housing woes and helping distressed homeowners remain in their homes.

Congress must foster an economic climate that encourages the homebuilders, homebuyers and renters to remain active and engaged.  Government subsidized housing must remain available for low-income Americans who especially rely on federal assistance to locate affordable housing and to become first time home buyers.

I will continue to work diligently to make sure the government does not play an outsized role in the housing finance industry or contribute to inefficiencies in the housing market. Simultaneously, I will advocate for the increased development of housing available for low and middle income families.
