From Public Housing To Homeownership: Dreams come true!

The Grand Forks Herald reported owning a home seemed like an impossible dream to three low-income Grand Forks families. But, their dreams of owning their own homes were made possible with the help of the Grand Forks Housing Authority and HUD's Housing Choice Homeownership Voucher Program. The program is administered by local housing authorities that assist first-time homebuyers with their monthly housing expenses.

Each participant attends mandatory homebuyer education classes where they learn how to budget, clean up their credit and save for unexpected expenses associated with owning a home. One percent of the homeowner's payment goes into an escrow account that can be used for home repairs and maintenance.

The Grand Forks Housing Authority is the first Housing Authority in North Dakota to allow voucher holders to use HUD's Homeownership Voucher Program. To qualify, you must be a current voucher holder and meet other eligibility requirements.

For more information, contact the Grand Forks Housing Authority at 701-746-2545
