Overview:
Influenza can spread rapidly in health care settings. By getting vaccinated health care personnel (HCP) can protect themselves, their families, and their patients. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) recommend that all HCP get vaccinated annually against influenza. Influenza vaccination coverage among HCP is an important quality measure, but research shows substantial variation in the way hospitals measure HCP vaccination. Beginning in January 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will require acute care hospitals to report aggregate influenza vaccination among HCP. Join us for this COCA call where CDC subject matter experts will review the recent coverage data, current recommendations, improvements for reporting, and provide resources for clinician education and influenza vaccine promotion.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to accomplish the following:
- Discuss the importance of influenza vaccination in health care personnel
- State the influenza vaccination recommendations for health care personnel
- Identify the three groups of health care personnel covered by the new standardized influenza vaccination quality measure, and categorize vaccination status according to measure specifications
- Locate educational and promotional resources available for the 2011-2012 influenza season.
