EMERGENCY PLANS FOR MOBILE HOMES

I'm Bob Bowen and I live in Southern California in a Mobile Home Park. Many aspects of the basic emergency plans are common but in some cases, one size DOES NOT fit all. In a mobile home one should never "duck & cover" as the stantions that mobile homes have can come up thru the floor and some people have been killed by them.  In a mobile home, get on the bed, a couch, counter, etc. there is very little that is going to fall on you.  In an earthquake the safest place is the middle of the street. these units are not two or three stories and not of bricks or cement.

All I am saying is TAILOR YOUR EMERGENCY PLAN to fit your particular needs and do not rely completely on a "boilerplate" form.  Our plan calls for (1) NO telephoneing - leave the airways open for the emergency personnel. (2) NO evacuating until told to do so by the proper authorities - to just get in the car and start driving may get you in more trouble then you are already in.(3) the most inportant item you should take with you is your medication. You can always get water - the water heater has 50 or so gallons - and most of us would do better without a meal or two - but most of us cannot get along without their medication.

We have many unique items in our emergency plan tailored to fit our pecular situation.  think and good luck with your plan.

Safe Room Anyone living in a mobile home needs a Safe Room!

Fact is if a person lives in a mobile home most likely their economic status is below the 6 figure range.  Economics is why people do not evacuate.  The cost of gas, lodging, food etc restricts people from leaving their home.

If more effort was put towards providing the funds and assistance to mobile home owners to build or purchase safe rooms Many lives would be saved and a boost to the economy
