The term ―School Improvement‖ is something we hear just about every day in the world of education. AdvancED explains that school improvement is both strategic (designed to produce results), and operational (executed by a robust set of operational activities and metrics), (AdvancED Website 2011). The AdvancED School Improvement Life Cycle shows how schools engage in continuous improvement by collecting and analyzing data, setting goals, creating and implementing action plans, and effectively evaluating success.
Just as none of the components in the cycle above operate independent of the others, schools that engage in effective school improvement efforts un-derstand that this is not an event or a program in the school, but a process that is an embedded part of the school, influencing all activities, programs, initiatives, and decisions. Lastly, school improvement is not the responsibility of the principal or school improvement team, but is a process that should be owned by everyone involved in the life of the school‖ (AdvancED Web-site, 2011) to include parents, community members, teachers, staff, and school administrators.
The South Carolina/Ft. Stewart/DoDDS Cuba District encourages parents and community members to support our schools in our improvement efforts. Please contact the building principal of your child’s school to see how you can get involved.
Bolden Elementary/Middle School has its own School Improvement Team. The Team consists of teachers, administrators, and parents. It’s mission is to continually review and recommend activities necessary for school improvement. The Team writes a yearly School Improvement Plan to address the goals and outcomes of our Department of Defense Education Activity’s Community Strategic Plan.
Bolden Elementary/Middle School Improvement Plan Goals
Goal 1: All students will improve problem solving and reasoning skills by identifying the problem, selecting & applying appropriate strategies, and justifying answers.
Goal 2: All students will improve writing skills by identifying & effectively applying targeted traits in their writing.
