WORK HOURS:        Full-time; 40 hours/week

WORK LOCATION:   66% at the Peace Corps Office in Addis Ababa; 33% in Peace Corps project communities

SALARY:                  Base Annual Salary: USD $6,212 to be paid in ET Birr (Grant funded)

Summary of Basic Functions

Peace Corps Ethiopia seeks an experienced professional for the position of Food Security Support & Technical Training Assistant (FSTTA). Under the supervision of the Director of Programming and Training and Program Manager for the Ag-Environment project, the FSTTA will provide support to Peace Corps Agriculture/Environment programming staff during Pre-service, In-Service and Mid-service trainings and facilitate the implementation of ag-environment and nutritional health capacity building efforts in communities where Peace Corps Volunteers live and work. In addition to technical training duties, the FSTTA supports staff in a wide variety of programming functions, especially in the planning, monitoring, and management of Volunteers working on food security activities, and networking and working with local partners in Amhara, Oromia, SNNP and Tigray regions of Ethiopia to develop and prepare assignments for new Volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications:

*         Applicants must demonstrate three to five years of progressive and relevant professional experience;

*         Minimum bachelor's in agriculture, horticulture, plant science or other related discipline (master's preferred);

*         Level IV (fluent) in reading, writing and speaking in both English and Amharic;

*         Demonstrated experience in the design, management and evaluation of community Agriculture/Environment related projects and training programs;

*         Experience working in a cross-cultural and international setting;

*         Demonstrated training experience with adult learners, preferably with American and/or volunteer populations;

*         Professional background in grassroots agriculture development work with rural Ethiopian communities;

*         Intermediate to advanced Microsoft software skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc);

*         Ability to travel frequently under challenging conditions to rural towns & villages for extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:

*         Comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the Ethiopian agriculture and environmental issues is highly desired;

*         Able to coordinate and manage complex logistical issues for stakeholder meetings, site visits, assignment development, transportation and coordinating guest speakers and contractors;

*         Demonstrated success designing interactive session plans, workshops and conferences;

*         Experience with project monitoring, evaluation and reporting;

*         Demonstrated report writing skills (applicants may be asked to share a writing sample in English);

*         Strong mentoring and coaching skills, and ability to give constructive feedback to adult learners;

*         Strong communication skills, including writing of reports, evaluations and public speaking;

*         Experience working in a cross-cultural office setting, preferably with an American or European organization;

*         Demonstrated experience of working with host-country government officials, NGO representatives, or representatives of private voluntary organizations;

*         Familiarity with at least one other national language of Ethiopia in addition to Amharic;

*         Extremely flexible and good natured, especially within an often stressful working environment;

*         Self-starter capable of independent work, while also appreciative and skillful in a team setting.
