Congress has given NOAA a unique mandate as a lead Federal agency in protecting, managing, and restoring marine resources. To meet this mandate, our scientists, specialists, and external partners contribute world-class expertise in oceanography, marine ecology, marine archeology, fisheries management, conservation biology, natural resource management, and risk assessment. This Interactive Map Service highlights the wide variety of data available for the Gulf of Mexico regional ecosystem.

The map shows the Northern and Southern Gulf of Mexico regional ecosystems. The data have been broken into categories based on a modified version of NASA's Global Change Master Directory (GCMD). The data include climatological databases, in situ observations (current and historical), habitat-related information, oceanographic and meteorological forecasts, and remotely sensed imagery.
