Spring in the Wings?
A field of wheat

And, finally, FSA has all kinds of important dates and deadlines. The VA FSA Calendar is always available under 'I Want To….' over on the right. See FSA VA Calendar.

2008 Farm Bill logo

Passage of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 extended the authorization of the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (the 2008 Farm Bill) for many Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) commodity, disaster, and conservation programs through 2013.

FSA is preparing the following actions:

  • FSA will begin sign-ups for DCP and ACRE for the 2013 crops on Feb. 19, 2013. The DCP sign-up period will end on Aug. 2, 2013; the ACRE sign-up period will end on June 3, 2013.

  • All dairy producers’ MILC contracts are automatically extended to Sept. 30, 2013. Eligible producers therefore do not need to re-enroll in MILC. Specific details regarding certain modifications to MILC will be released soon.

Crop Insurance , NAP, or Nothing?

You probably know about crop insurance. You might know about coverage you can buy from FSA when crop insurance isn't available.

That's called NAP -- Noninsured Crop Disaster Program.
Don't care for either? Then, don't expect any "Farm Bill" assistance. See the SURE article below!

Here's a good article on crop related natural disaster risk management by Allison Wash, Virginia FSA's Program Specialist responsible for such things!

SURE Boosts VA Producers' Revenue $26.4 million

The Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program provides producers with additional revenue when natural disasters reduce farm income.

In fiscal year 2012, Virginia FSA paid over $26-million to eligible producers who suffered financial losses resulting from natural disasters that occurred in crop year 2010.

2011 SURE Sign-Up Now

Sign-up for the 2011 SURE program is scheduled to conclude on June 7, 2013
Covered losses must be due to natural disasters and must have occurred during the 2011 crop year, on or before September 30, 2011.

All crops of economic significance, with the exception of grazed forages, must have been covered either through a federal crop insurance company (FCIC) or through the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) offered by the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA).

If you have any questions, please contact your local FSA County Office.

FSA Moving to Electronic Information

Virginia's producers are asked to enroll in the new GovDelivery system which will provide notices, newsletters and electronic reminders instead of a hard copy through the mail.

FSA, like many other organizations, is trying to work smarter and be more efficient. Moving to electronic notifications via email will help conserve resources and save taxpayer dollars.

County Committee ballots will continue to be mailed to all eligible producers.

Interested producers may subscribe to receive e-mail updates by going to the USDA GovDelivery sign-up page found at the following web address:
