Welcome to Andrews Welcome to Andrews

The 11th Wing, under the auspice of the Air Force District of Washington, assumed host-unit responsibilities at Joint Base Andrews in June 2006. The 11 WG supports contingency operations in our nation's capital with immediate response rotary-assets. It also provides security for the world's highest visibility flight line and is responsible for ceremonial support with the United States Air Force Band, Honor Guard and Air Force Arlington Chaplaincy.

tabAbout the base
Often called "The Gateway to the Nation's Capitol," Andrews has seen not only our own government leaders, but kings, queens, prime ministers and military leaders from more than 50 nations fly on its aircraft and transit through the base. People stationed here may see or even participate in events and operations that directly affect the course of world events. Andrews is constantly featured in the public spotlight on national and international television, radio, newspapers and magazines.

Despite the wide media coverage, Andrews is no different from any other Air Force base. Approximately 13,000 people, including Active Duty, Guard and Reserve personnel and their families, civilian employees, and contractors live and/or work at Andrews, performing both routine and exceptional duties.

The 11 WG is host to more than 60 separate organizations here, including not only the 89th Airlift Wing (responsible for providing safe, reliable, worldwide airlift and logistical support for the president of the United States, vice president, Cabinet members and other high-ranking U.S. and foreign government officials), but also units from the Army, Navy, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard.

Families not accustomed to living in a metropolitan area may go through a period of adjustment, but the benefits of an assignment here cannot be matched. In addition to recreational facilities found at most other Air Force bases, Andrews features unlimited points of interest in surrounding communities, which can make your stay here a pleasant and memorable one.
