Applying for a U.S. Passport

U.S. citizens present in Ethiopia may apply for a U.S. passport at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa Monday through Thursday between 1:00pm and 3:00pm. We strongly suggest that passport applicants download and complete the application forms in advance of the application using the links below.

U.S. Citizens with a justified emergency situation can obtain a limited validity replacement passport during regular ACS hours. Emergency passport requests should be accompanied by a police report translated into English and proof of the need for immediate travel. The fee for emergency passports, when justified, is $135 or the equivalent in Ethiopian Birr. All other passport requests will be processed within two weeks.
