Partnerships

To enhance NOAA’s Web presence, NCDC collaborated with NOAA partners and contributing agencies to develop climate.gov. Climate.gov showcases a wide breadth of climate data and information and features key climate topic discussions and videos, data access tools, and information for educators.

NOAA's National Weather Service

  • National Weather Service (NWS)
The NWS provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters, and ocean areas for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. You can find your local forecast along with recent weather on the NWS website.
  • Climate Prediction Center (CPC)
The CPC produces operational predictions of climate variability, real-time monitoring of climate, and assessments of the origins of major climate anomalies. The products cover time scales from a week to seasons and cover the land, ocean, and atmosphere. You can find the current conditions of the El Niño Southern Oscillation and its forecast on the CPC website.
  • Storm Prediction Center (SPC)
The SPC provides timely and accurate forecasts and watches for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes over the contiguous United States. The SPC also monitors heavy rain, heavy snow, and fire weather events across the United States and issues specific products for those hazards. You can find current watches and warnings as well as storm reports on the SPC website.

NOAA Data Centers

NCDC is one of three Environmental Data Centers operated by NOAA's National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS).

  • National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC)
NGDC provides scientific stewardship, products, and services for geophysical data from the sun to the Earth and the Earth's sea floor and solid Earth environment, including Earth observations from space.
  • National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC)
NODC archives and distributes oceanographic data and information. These data include physical, biological, and chemical measurements from in situ oceanographic observations, satellite remote sensing, and industrial oceanographic activities in coastal and deep ocean areas.

Regional and State Climate Services

Additionally, NCDC collaborates with a three-tier national climate services program through the Regional Climate Centers and the American Association of State Climatologists.

  • Regional Climate Centers (RCCs)
NOAA’s Regional Climate Centers consist of six centers that are engaged in the timely production and delivery of useful climate data, information, and knowledge for decision makers and other users at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
  • American Association of State Climatologists (AASC)
The American Association of State Climatologists is a professional scientific organization that provides improved climate services for the Nation through greater integration of data quality control, improved communication among the sector, and more coordinated referral of customer inquiries.

Academic Partners

NCDC also collaborates with academic, non-profit, and community organizations such as the Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites-North Carolina, which is collocated at NCDC.
