Student Internships

2013 DSS Summer Intern Program

The Defense Security Service Summer Internship program gives promising students the opportunity to gain marketable experience in the field of industrial security. Summer interns are full-time employees on a temporary appointment.  Internships will run from June 3-September 6, 2013.

Applicants must:

  • Be US citizens
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Have completed at least 30 semester hours
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Complete a 500 word essay describing why you are interested in an internship at DSS and how this internship will help you grow as an individual

All applicants selected for an internship will be required to undergo a background investigation and drug-testing prior to selection, with random drug testing during employment.

  • Boren Awards for International Study (scholarship/fellowships for service)
    Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations. Boren focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. national security, broadly defined, and underrepresented in study abroad.

    Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad.

    Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Boren Fellowships support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests.

  • DoD Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program
    SMART is an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion.
  • American Society of Engineering & Education (ASEE)
    ASEE administers a number of fellowship and research programs with funding provided by the Federal agencies including the Department of Defense (DOD), NASA, and the National Science Foundation (NSF). These range from programs that provide summer internships for high school students to research programs for faculty members during the summer or while on sabbatical. Programs include undergraduate and graduate research support and postdoctoral research programs for recent PhDs at government and industrial research facilities.

    ASEE provides support tasks that include outreach and promotion activities, application processing support, application review activities, and administration of stipend and tuition payments for program participants.
