Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a Federal law that establishes the public's right to request existing records from Federal government agencies.

Purpose of this site
This site allows you to obtain information regarding Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests concerning the Navy Reserve.
It will provide you with a brief description of your rights and the manner in which we will respond to your requests. The information contained herein is not intended to be definitive or exhaustive.

The FOIA, Title 5, United States Code, Section 552, along with the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Navy (DON) regulations, governs how requests will be processed within the Department of the Navy (DON).
DoD Regulation 5400.7-R, "DOD FOIA Program," of 4 September 1998, can be found at Part 286 of Title 32 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
Secretary of the Navy Instruction 5720.42F, Subj: (DON)(FOIA) PROGRAM, can be found at Part 701 of Title 32 of the CFR. The CFR is available in most libraries.
