History: A Slow Trip Across the Pacific

As a C-124 Globemaster II crew member assigned to Dover AFB in 1958 most if not all of our missions were flown to the European Continent and to the Far North; so, when a Pacific trip to Japan came up just about everyone put their bids in for a place on the crew. Well, with a little pull and being the navigator scheduling officer at the time, it was not that difficult to place my name tag on the mission setup board.

Event: The Race to Space, A Hangar Flying Presentation

Join us at the museum on Sunday, 10 February 2013 at 2 p.m. for a new program in our Hangar Flying series. Bill Ayrey of ILC Dover will shift gears and talk about the history of the U.S. manned space program which culminated with Neal Armstrong being the first man on the moon. This educational and entertaining program will also cover early space history and how the Cold War with the Soviets drove the race to space. You'll also learn about space suit design and construction from the Apollo missions to the current Space Station missions.

New Oral History Interview!

The sixth addition to our Oral History project has been uploaded. Bill Voigt was a pilot during World War II. He ferried cargo in C-46 Commandos and flew C-54 Skymasters in the Berlin Airlift (Operation Vittles). He talks about his pilot training, the types of missions he flew during and after WWII, and about his time at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. Watch the video here.
