December 2012 Greening References updated

The Greening of the World of Work: O*NET Project's Book of References update adds additional green references to those compiled from our initial research report on the green economy. Ongoing green activities, such as data collection on occupational and worker requirements for green occupations, and continuous green economy research, contributed to this winter's update. December 2012 O*NET Ability Profiler Scoring Program software and User Guides updated

The Occupational Ability Profiles (OAPs) in the O*NET Ability Profiler Scoring Program (APSP) software have been updated to reflect data from the new O*NET 17.0 database. Download this software, along with the Ability Profiler User's Guide and the APSP User's Guide, from our Products section.

October 2012 Lay Titles database updated

The O*NET Lay Titles database now contains over 44,000 distinct titles. Using information gathered from the O*NET Data Collection and additional research efforts, this update adds over 2,600 new titles. A variety of private and publicly developed electronic tools, including the Department of Labor's O*NET OnLine, My Next Move, and CareerOneStop, use the job and occupation titles to improve their keyword search performance. September 2012 New data in O*NET websites

The 17.0 database is now incorporated within My Next Move, My Next Move for Veterans, and O*NET OnLine. Comprehensive data is available for 900 O*NET-SOC occupations. Specifically, the 17.0 database updated 108 O*NET-SOCs. The database also includes new and updated Work Values data for 83 occupations.

August 2012 Updated military occupations included in O*NET websites

The Military Occupational Classification (MOC) crosswalk has been updated by the Department of Defense (July 2012) and incorporated into O*NET OnLine and My Next Move for Veterans. Over 10,000 MOC occupations are linked to related O*NET-SOC occupations. Transitioning military personnel can use their military code or title to discover related civilian occupations/careers within O*NET Online's Military Crosswalk Search or My Next Move for Veterans' Military Transition Search.

August 2012 Certification programs added to the My Next Move websites

Improve your work credentials by earning a certification demonstrating your knowledge, experience, and skills related to your career. Each career report in My Next Move and My Next Move for Veterans now has a "Find Certifications" feature. Discover available national certifications that are accredited, industry endorsed, related to military occupational specialties, and more.

July 2012 O*NET Database updated

With the release of the O*NET 17.0 development database, comprehensive data is now available for 900 O*NET-SOC occupations, including the 108 O*NET-SOCs updated within this release. The database also includes Work Values ratings for all 974 data-level occupations. Find out more about or download this file from our Developer's Corner.

July 2012 OMB approves three-year extension for data collection

On June 25, 2012, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved a three-year extension of the O*NET Data Collection effort. Read more about the data collection program and the OMB clearance process in our Data Collection section.

May 2012 Vets: Take advantage of the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program!

My Next Move for Veterans makes it easy for veterans to discover which careers are eligible for the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program external site (VRAP). The VRAP offers up to 12 months of training assistance to unemployed veterans between the ages of 35 and 60. The program is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Labor. Explore a list of eligible careers now!

May 2012 State-specific career outlook added to My Next Move websites

Some states have more opportunities for particular careers than others. Each career report within My Next Move and My Next Move for Veterans now has a "Check Out My State" feature. Use the simple map to discover which states have an "above average" or "below average" share of a career within their workforce.

April 2012 Read the updated Greening of the World of Work report

Greening of the World of Work: Revisiting Occupational Consequences follows up on the 2009 Greening of the World of Work: Implications for O*NET-SOC and New and Emerging Occupations. The update presents the current state of the green economy, outlines major workforce development challenges facing the green economy, and presents updated research on green New and Emerging occupations.

April 2012 Finding O*NET reports made easy

O*NET research reports, technical reports, and other useful O*NET material have been organized to make finding them easier. New categories and a new search mechanism provide easy and ready access to O*NET materials across a variety of topics. Additionally, the section has grown to include 66 different documents. Check it out in our O*NET Reports and Documents section.

April 2012 New BLS info in O*NET Websites

The Bureau of Labor Statistics external site (BLS) has released wage estimates for 2011 and an update of its Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). The latest wages are now included in career reports within O*NET OnLine, My Next Move, and My Next Move for Veterans. The OOH Crosswalk Search and the occupational reports have been updated in O*NET OnLine to reflect the new OOH crosswalk and publication material.

March 2012 New BLS projections and industry info in O*NET Websites

The Bureau of Labor Statistics external site (BLS) has released new employment projections for 2010 - 2020, along with updated industry employment data. This information is now included within O*NET OnLine, My Next Move, and My Next Move for Veterans. Importantly, this allows for the update of the Bright Outlook feature included within the O*NET sites, helping clients more accurately target careers where new job opportunities are likely in the future. In addition, the "Browse by Industry" searches within the O*NET sites are also updated to reflect more current employment patterns.
