418th FLTS takes testing new C-130 airdrop system to whole new level

The last test container bundle in a string of seven bundles exits a C-130J during a High Speed Container Delivery System test June 22. HSCDS testing began in June and involves the 418th Flight Test Squadron conducting the tests with the assistance from the 412th Operation Support Squadron Developmental Airdrop Rigging Shop and the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Engineering and Development Center. 418th FLTS takes testing new C-130 airdrop system to whole new level

Tech. Sgt. Christopher Jones, 418th Flight Test Squadron C-130J flight test loadmaster, evaluates the cargo area July 13 during a high speed container delivery system test on a C-130J. Sept. 15, 1991: First flight of T-1 from Long Beach Municipal Airport to Edwards Air Force Base. The flight crew consisted of pilot Bill Casey, co-pilot Lt. Col. George London (6510th Test Wing), loadmaster Ted Venturini and flight test engineer George Van de Graaf, both McDonnell Douglas personnel.

Airborne Laser Test Bed takes its final flight

With the Moon serving as a backdrop for the YAL-1A Airborne Laser Test Bed aircraft Feb. 14, the aircraft's nose displays the accomplishments it had while it was tested at Edwards AFB, Calif. Airborne Laser Test Bed takes its final flight

The YAL-1A Airborne Laser Test Bed aircraft departs off Runway 22L at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., in order to make its final low approach over the Birk Flight Test Facility Feb. 14 before heading to Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. The ALTB, which was at Edwards for more than nine years, was a modified Boeing 747-400 Freighter that housed two solid-state lasers and a megawatt-class Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser that could use directed energy as a viable technology against ballistic missiles.. The YAL-1A Airborne Laser Test Bed aircraft flys over Rogers Dry Lakebed for its final low approach over Edwards Air Force Base before taking a ferry flight to Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., on Feb. 14.
