Notarizing your signature

Notary services are available either if you are a U.S. citizen or if you need to sign a document in front of a U.S. notary to use the document in the United States (regardless of your citizenship).

You can execute a notary either at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota or at the Consular Agency in Barranquilla.

To request a notary service at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, you must make an online appointment by clicking here.

To request a notary service at the U.S. Consular Agency in Barranquilla, no appointment is necessary. You may visit the Consular Agency any time Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Effective July 13, 2010, there are new fees. These are outlined in detail below.

The cost for notary services is $50 per consular signature. The fee may be paid in cash, in dollars or pesos.  Checks are not accepted.  At the Embassy only, you may pay with a MasterCard, Visa, or American Express credit card.  Your document(s) will be prepared and notarized while you wait. We regret, that we can not accept 100 dollar bills. 

Please be aware that the Embassy cannot notarize your signature on a document that will be used anywhere other than in the United States.  Documents to be used in Colombia should be signed in front of a local Colombian notary.  A Spanish-language directory of Colombian notaries is available from the Colombian government’s Superintendencia de Notariado y Registro in this link.
