WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) recently met with Chelsea Maclean, a 2012 graduate of Pasadena Memorial High School, and recognized her for her winning submission to the annual Congressional Art Contest. Her piece, entitled “Riding Free,” features a detailed colored pencil drawing of a young boy on his horse. Olson congratulated Chelsea and her family at a special meeting in his office. The winning piece will now be on display in the Capitol for a year.

"I congratulate Chelsea on her great achievement, and I'm privileged to share her artwork with the nation,” Olson said. “Thousands at the Capitol will now see firsthand what talented young people we have here in the 22^nd Congressional District of Texas. Chelsea’s artwork is a credit to her hard work and vision and is a testament to her parents and teachers who support her and her talent.”

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Olson will also be displaying the art of selected runner-up winners in his own offices in Washington, Clear Lake and Sugar Land for the year.

Texas 22^nd District Winners:

•  The first place winner is Chelsea Maclean, a recent graduate of Pasadena Memorial.  “Riding Free,” featuring a young boy holding the reins on his horse, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol.

•  The first runner up is Stephen Alcala, a recent graduate of Pasadena Memorial. Stephen’s piece, "Home on the Range," features a young boy riding his horse as the sun rises and will be displayed in Rep. Olson’s Washington, DC office.

•  The second runner up is Amy Troung, a sophomore at Pasadena Memorial. Amy’s piece, "Nosey Horsey," features a horse from a close-up, low angle view. It will be displayed in Rep. Olson’s Sugar Land Office.

•  The third runner up is Hadeel Taha, a recent graduate of Clear Springs High School. Hadeel’s piece, "Mystery," features a little girl looking curiously downward. 

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. This competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each Congressional District. The over-all winner from each district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
