9/25/2012 - CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN AIR FORCE STATION, Colo. -- A group of firefighters from the 721st Civil Engineer Squadron are the latest Gold Knight award recipients.

The Waldo Canyon fire initial attack crew was assigned to the Cedar Heights neighborhood, where they protected structures by constructing fire lines and battling the blaze. The group helped prevent the fire from progressing into another neighborhood below, avoiding further catastrophe during the most destructive fire in Colorado history.

The team consisted of Chris Soliz, Jesse Feldhauser, Brian Zimmerman, Elias Kunishige, Daryl Bolton, Richard Burgess and Tyler Nielsen.

The firefighters assisted at the scene for two days, and afterwards provided continued mutual aid and response coverage for two Colorado Springs fire stations over the next nine days.
