Environmental Health Education for the Public
Introduction
ATSDR provides communities, health educators, health-care providers, and other health professionals with community environmental health education products. These products are designed to increase environmental health literacy and address the positive and/or negative impact that the environment has on human health. Community environmental health products include information about specific types of exposures to hazardous substances, exposure routes and pathways, health effects, treatment options, and how to prevent or minimize exposures to hazardous substances in the environment. These educational products are available and downloadable online.
Cancer and the Environment: What You Need to Know. What You Can Do.
This training is suitable for the allied health professionals and members of the general population. It addresses concerns about the connection between cancer and exposure to toxic substances in the environment. It contains information about which types of substances are known either to cause or likely to cause cancer, and what can be done to reduce exposures to them. It also explains how scientists discover which substances are likely to cause cancer. Although toxic substances may cause other health effects, cancer is the focus of this training.

Community Environmental Health Education Presentations
ATSDR Community Environmental Health Education Presentations are 20-minute instructional presentations that can be used in face-to-face education with community groups to increase environmental health literacy. Community Environmental Health Education Presentations are available in two versions (Community Environmental Health Instructional Presentation Kits and Community Environmental Health Web Stream Presentations) and consist of a detailed script, PowerPoint slides, and learner support materials.

Promoting Environmental Health in Communities
ATSDR has created Promoting Environmental Health in Communities (PEHC), a collection of factsheets, talking points, and a power point, to teach the basic concepts of toxicology and environmental health. PEHC will help communities better understand recommendations from environmental health professionals.
