Rep. Markey has made it a priority to ensure that the United States acts as a leader in human rights. He strongly opposes torture and the outsourcing of terror, known as extraordinary rendition, and has introduced legislation to ban the practice. He opposed President Bush’s Military Commissions Act of 2006, and would strongly object to any other legislation restricting the writ of Habeas Corpus. He has also worked on behalf of refugees in Iraq’s Camp Ashraf to ensure they can be relocated to safety as promptly as possible.
