NMFS Northeast Fisheries Science Center N E W SMALE HUMPBACK WHALES Woods Hole, MA --Two researchers working off Cape Cod have discovered that male humpback whales feeding there in the spring are singing as though it’s winter, when they breed in tropical waters. The finding may change the way scientists think about seasonal behavior and reproduction in this endangered species. The researchers are Phil Clapham of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries), and Chris Clark of Cornell University.
