tabSpecial Announcements
Flu season is here: Feeling a little blue with the flu? "Stay home and avoid passing it on to others" is the latest advice being dispensed by the emergency room staff at David Grant USAF Medical Center. In most cases, otherwise healthy individuals do not require anti-viral medication as most recover on their own. Click this link for more details.

ER reconstruction:
With both the flu season underway coupled with an 11-month, $7.4 million remodeling of DGMC's emergency department starting in January, DGMC wants to ensure our patients have the best guidance possible dealing with the ER reconstruction and modernization project. Fortunately, authority exists for supervisors base-wide to place their non-acutely ill members on 24-hour quarters without the member being seen by a military treatment facility.

Air Force Instruction 41-210, "TRICARE Operations and Patient Administration Functions" paragraph 4.14.6 states: "Unit Commanders and supervisors have the authority to grant up to 24 hours sick status at their discretion if a member's illness/injury does not require MTF intervention. If the illness/injury persists beyond 24 hours, then the Commander or supervisor must refer the member to the MTF for treatment and subsequent clinical examination."

Patients should expect prolonged waiting times for non-emergent complaints. However, an urgent care "pop off" option with local hospitals will be available. Patients should call DGMC's Central Appointments desk at (707) 423-3000 (Toll Free, 1-800-264-3462) Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. for same day urgent appointments. Primary care managers and clinics will also see active duty in uniform on the same day for acute complaints. Scheduled completion date for the new ER is expected by November 2013.

DGMC opens new joint DoD/VA Physical Therapy Clinic at McClellan: The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System and David Grant USAF Medical Center celebrated the Nov. 29 grand opening of a new physical therapy clinic at the DGMC-McClellan Outpatient Satellite Clinic in Sacramento. This joint incentive funding venture will enable veterans, active-duty members and retirees improved access to physical therapy services with increased PT staffing at the new, state-of-the-art clinic. The clinic will be used for a range of individualized and group-based activities to enhance the quality of care and efficiency of health and wellness services and improved clinical outcomes among veterans including Pre- and Post-surgical education and rehabilitation, Sports Medicine, Pilates, Pain management education and MOVE! (a national weight management program). For more information on the PT clinic at DGMC-McClellan, call (916) 561-7510.

Find it all in "The Patient Mall": DGMC's Outpatient Pharmacy is now operating out of their new location on Level 2, referred to by DGMC staff and patients alike as "The Patient Mall."  It features a consolidated Patient Service Center which includes window counters for  Admissions & Dispositions, Referral Management and TRICARE. Rounding out our patient-centered areas in the mall is Diagnostic Imaging, Pathology / Clinical Laboratories, and the Women's Imaging Center.
