How the Materials Are Organized at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)

While most NARA units specialize in certain government offices or media types, the Nixon Library materials relate to the life and career of Richard Nixon, particularly his Presidential Administration, and contain multiple media types.

  • You will need to know which type of media to research within the Nixon Library.

The archival principle of "provenance" is always practiced when handling archival materials. That is to say that the National Archives always respects the original arrangement of records as established by the creating unit.

  • The Nixon Presidential materials are maintained in the order established by the White House.
