These days, the majority of young scientists will not end up in a traditional academic research position. This presentation will give you some criteria to consider in deciding if embarking on an industry science career is right for you and then will provide concrete tools and resources for preparing for this transition.

 

Speaker Bio:  Joanne Kamens, Ph.D. Executive Director, Addgene  Dr. Kamens did her undergraduate work in Biology at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her Ph.D. in Genetics from Harvard Medical School's Division of Medical Sciences. Dr. Kamens spent 15 years in Worcester, MA at BASF Bioresearch Center which became Abbott Bioresearch Center in 2001. While at Abbott, she led discovery research projects on small molecule and antibody approaches to immunological and inflammatory diseases, ultimately serving as a Group Leader in Molecular Biology. In 2007 she joined RXi Pharmaceuticals as Director of Discovery Research and concluded there as Senior Director of Research Collaborations. In 2011, Dr. Kamens became the Executive Director of Addgene, a mission driven, non-profit plasmid repository dedicated to helping academic scientists around the world share high-quality plasmids.
