What is Leadership?

There are many definitions for leadership.

The Army’s definition of Leadership is “the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation.”

Who is an Army leader?

An Army leader is anyone who, by virtue of assumed role or assigned responsibility, inspires and influences people to accomplish organizational goals.

Army leaders motivate people both inside and outside the chain of command to pursue actions, focus thinking, and shape decisions for the greater good of the organization.

Leadership

Career development is a high priority for Army IH staff members, and guidance for employees on a leadership and management also will available for employees regardless of their leadership aspirations.

Leadership training prepares the industrial hygienist for supervisory and leadership roles.
It is not technical training in areas such as ventilation and indoor air quality. 

Sources of Leadership Training within the Army

1. The  Civilian Education System Leader Development Program
   offers four courses that replace the previous inventory of legacy courses offered for Army civilians—Foundation, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced.
   
   
2. Most permanent Army civilians are centrally funded. Military members and term and temporary employees are funded through their own organizations.
   
   
3. The  Army e-Learning Program   is available to users who have an AKO user ID and password. 
   
   
4.  Register for AKO 
   The log-on to Army e-Learning allows the user to access a 2,500 course online library that includes the “Leadership Knowledge Center.” Upon registering and accessing the site, the Leadership Knowledge Center is located in the Information column under “My Assignments” near the bottom.
   
   All courses are free of charge to Army civilians and military.
