HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Posted 10/5/2006 Printable Fact Sheet

Our goal is to help you achieve the benefits of higher level wellness. These benefits include feeling better, increased stamina, potentially increased longevity, decreased stress and increased readiness to rise to the challenges presented by military service or crises in your personal life. We will accomplish this by providing health information, tools and support for your efforts to modify your lifestyle and improve your health.

What's a HAWC?
HAWC stands for Health and Wellness Center and is fairly new to the Air Force. HAWCs are dedicated to prevention and health enhancement. These "one-stop" shops for health and fitness utilize education and intervention programs to decrease health risks, enhance fitness and conditioning, and increase personal performance.
Services include blood pressure screening, body fat composition analysis, polar pulse monitors, cholesterol education, spinning classes, tobacco cessation classes, a video loan library, nutritional information and more.

HAWC Customers
The Health and Wellness Center and its services are open to active duty, retirees, reservists, military dependents, and base-employed civilians. Certain programs are limited to active duty members. Exercise programs are open to those over the age of 16. The HAWC is neither equipped nor staffed as a medical rehabilitation center and follows exercise guidelines set forth by the American College of Sports Medicine.
