Kristen Lepore

Region II MRC Regional Coordinator

Born and raised in Region II, Kristen Lepore is an upstate New York transplant to the fair borough of Brooklyn, which she now calls home. She is thrilled to be a part of the Medical Reserve Corps and seeks to leverage her skills, energy, and expertise to support localities across New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

With over 13 years of experience in the field of public health, Kristen brings to her position a longstanding commitment to community engagement, a love of the nuts and bolts of organization, and a penchant for strategy and planning. Her formative work in HIV/AIDS and sexual/reproductive health continues to drive her firm belief that effective local programming depends on ground-level input and ownership. It was this work that ignited her interest in preparedness. Believing that community disruptions often serve as a flashpoint for understanding how well we are able to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the most vulnerable among us, Kristen engaged preparedness work at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health. In seeking to marry her interests in public health, preparedness, and community organization, Kristen finds her job within the Medical Reserve Corps to be tailor made.

Kristen has a MPH from Columbia University, and B.A. from Skidmore College. She was a 2006 United Way Junior Fellow.

Directly prior to joining the Medical Reserve Corps regional staff, Kristen served as Program Manager of an international maternal health project called the Averting Maternal Death and Disability Program (AMDD) at Columbia University. Her career also encompasses her tenure as Coalition Manager—and sole staff person of the AIDS Treatment Activists Coalition (ATAC). Additionally, she has worked with organizations such as the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations (NABCO) and Family Planning Advocates of New York State (FPA).

Kristen is a former peer educator and trained doula. Beyond her work in the field of public health preparedness, she dedicates her time to women’s health and education issues.

Kristen has a weakness for plants (a hallmark of her rural roots) and a small but thriving garden to show for it. She loves city life, the Met, any travel that involves a passport, Thai food, and all dance forms. Her biggest joy these days is her family – namely her partner and not-so-baby boy.
