Catherine Hand serves as the Deputy Director of Communications and Public Liaison for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
Hand comes from a long career in TV production. She was as an Executive Producer for Retirement Living TV (RLTV), the only cable network dedicated to serving adults 50+ by providing information and entertainment relevant to their needs and lifestyles. While at RLTV, she received the 2009 Gracie Award for Best Public Affairs Program for Healthcare '08: Search for Solutions, a multi-part TV series covering health care reform. Hand also produced the 2008 Purpose Prize Awards Gala at Stanford University for the non-profit, Civic Ventures, an organization created to encourage purposeful work in the second half of life.
In 2004, Hand served as the Executive Producer for the ABC/Miramax film based on the children's classic, A Wrinkle in Time, which won "Best Feature" at the Children's Toronto Film Festival.
Hand began her career in the early 1980s as creative executive to writer/producer Norman Lear and Vice President of Embassy Pictures. After working as Associate Producer for the Emmy-nominated ABC TV special, I Love Liberty, she helped Lear create People for the American Way.
Hand helped mount the 1984 Democratic Convention for television and subsequently worked for Francis Coppola's film company, American Zoetrope, as director of development.
In 1996, Hand moved to Washington, D.C. and served as the Managing Director for a newly formed syndicated radio network and produced two daily talk shows, one with The Hill Newspaper. She also helped launch Youth Venture, an offshoot of the Ashoka Foundation; and served as an account executive for Hayes Public Relations, managing several high profile accounts.
Catherine is a resident of Bethesda, MD and mother of three.
