Authorizes payments to producers currently growing asparagus for revenue losses during crop years 2004-07 due to imports. Mandates funding of $7.5 million for producers of fresh asparagus and $7.5 million for producers of processed or frozen asparagus.
USDA's Milk Income Loss Contract Program (MILC), carried out by the Farm Service Agency's (FSA), compensates dairy producers when domestic milk prices fall below a specified level. The 2008 Farm Bill authorized MILC through Sept. 30, 2012. The program has no set funding level.
Under the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) for Farmers Program, the U.S. Department of Agriculture helps producers of agricultural commodities adjust to competition from imports by providing them technical assistance, cash payments and opportunities for job retraining. Certain fisherman and aquaculture producers may also qualify for TAAF benefits.
