Metadata for NOAA/GLERL Michigan City, IN Met StationReturn to Michigan City Met Data pageData for the Alpena Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary & Underwater Preserve Meteorological Station: Data for Michigan City Meteorological Station: LATITUDE: 41-43-43 N LONGITUDE: 86-54-45 W Site online: 12 Jun 2002, relocated to the light house 31 Oct 2002 Special thanks to the men and women of the USCG Station Michigan City for their technical and financial support of this project. LOCATION: On the Michigan City harbor entrance light house. Site Elevation: 176.0 m above mean sea level Anemometer Height: 21.3 m above site elevation Air Temp Height: 18.3 m above site elevation Rain Sensor: 18.0 m above site elevation UV and PAR sensors: 19 m above site elevation Wind Sensor: R.M. Young model 5103 Wind monitor mounted on a 12 foot mast which is clamped to the light house deck railing. Temperature Sensor: CSI model 107 thermistor mounted in a naturally aspirated gill type radiation shield co-located on the Wind Monitor mast. Rain Sensor: Texas Electronics 525-WS tipping bucket rain gauge located ~5 feet above the light deck level on a 8 foot mast located on the SSE side of the light. This sensor is obstructed on the NNW side. (added 5/19/04) UV Sensor: Apogee Instruments UVS-1008 located on the top of an 8 foot mast located on the SSE side of the light at approximately the edge of the light deck roof. This sensor is partly obstructed on the NNW side. (added 5/19/04) PAR Sensor: Apogee Instruments QSO-15835 co-located with the UV sensor above. This sensor is partly obstructed on the NNW side. Hemispherical sensor: max value about 2000 uE/m^2/s. (added 5/19/04) Processor: CSI model CR510X. This unit samples the sensors every 5 seconds and is set to an averaging interval of 5 minutes. Power: The system is run from a 12A/hr gel cell battery which is maintained with with a battery charger powered from the AC supply to the light. Scheme: The CR10X is connected to a Campbell Scientific RF 400 900 Mhz SS radio modem which links to another RF400 and a telephone modem located in the Michigan City Coast Guard Station, approximately 2400 feet SSE of the light. The system is interrogated by a PC located in Ann Arbor running the CSI LoggerNet software and a telephone modem every hour. The data set consists of three 5 minute data ensembles. Averaging and interrogation intervals and the system program are adjustable remotely. The system data rate is set to 9600 baud. Data Line: The data line is comma delimited and consists of the following in order from left to right. Station ID, Michigan City = 7 Year Julian Day Time, UTC Voltage measured at CR10X Solar Panel Voltage. This is a dummy place holding value of -99 Panel (equipment compartment) Temperature, Deg C Average air temperature, Deg C Air temperature standard deviation, Deg C Wind Speed minimum, m/s Wind Speed maximum, m/s Wind Speed, standard deviation m/s Wind Speed, scalar average, m/s Wind Direction, unit vector average, degrees from (0=north, 90=east) Wind Direction, standard deviation, degrees.
