The Air Force Historical Studies Office is located in Washington, D. C. at Joint Base Anacostia Bolling.  It is a part of the Air Force History and Museums Program and is primarily the historical book writing element of the program.  Historians at AFHSO also provide historical information, analysis, and perspective to Air Force leaders and their staffs to support planning, policy development, and decision making.

Visitors and researchers must set up an appointment in order to visit the Air Force Historical Studies Office.

Please email or phone 202-404-2261 at least 48 hours in advance to make an appointment. Wait for confirmation of your appointment before coming to the AFHSO office.

Active duty military members, DOD civilians, and retired military members should be able to use their CAC, ID or retired ID card to drive onto Joint Base Anacostia Bolling without obtaining a visitor pass.

Our office will submit a request letter to the Base Visitors Center for those researchers not affiliated with DOD. Please provide the following information:

Visitor's Full name
Social Security Number
Bring a current driver's license and proof of current automobile insurance. The base requires these in order to issue a Base Visitor's Pass.

Please call or email if you are unable to keep your appointment.
