1/14/2013 - JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- JBER officials responded to a suspicious package left at the Boniface Gate at approximately 4 a.m., causing the gate to close for two hours.

An individual left a package at the gate, and then fled the scene. 673d Security Forces Squadron personnel apprehended the person and turned him over to Anchorage Police Department.

Emergency responders formed a 500-foot cordon to keep people safe. Security forces determined the package was miscellaneous food supplies.

"We took the precautionary measures to ensure the safety of everyone," said Air Force Col. Brian Duffy, JBER and 673d Air Base Wing commander. "Due to the rapid response by our emergency responders, we quickly resolved the situation."
