Nominees rank and name:
Airman 1st Class Marnell Dillingham

Where are you from? Chicago, IL

What's your favorite thing about being stationed in Japan? My favorite thing about being stationed in Japan is the opportunity to experience a different culture, a variety of different foods, cities and beautiful land.

Who has been your greatest Air Force mentor and what quality about this mentor do you value most? My greatest Air Force mentors thus far have been my supervisor Staff Sgt. Piper and Staff Sgt. Hoover. The qualities I value most about both of them are their ability to go above and beyond when presented with any task. In addition, the creative ideas they bring to our shop help us respond to any situation that may arise. Lastly, I admire how organized they are, how they motivate me and other Airmen to be the best they can be when it comes to our job, education and volunteering.

What is your primary professional goal at this point in your career? My goal at this point in my career is to obtain my Community College of the Air Force in Aviation Management and gain all of the knowledge that my superiors possess. I plan to use that knowledge to become an asset in my career field, and eventually pass down what I've learned to future troops to maintain excellence in Airfield Management.

What motivates you? Leaving a shift knowing I gave 100 percent, and doing my very best to make sure our mission is accomplished and every need is met is what motivates me. The opportunity to learn and develop qualities of a leader and eventually pass those skills to another individual that may be from a different city, country or culture to make our world a better place is what motivates me.

Describe the best day of your life:
The best day in my life would be the day I graduated basic training. I left home in pursuit of a better life. After arriving at Lackland Air Force Base, my "Training Instructor" pushed, motivated and molded me and my flight into Airmen that not only knew the core values but expressed them in our everyday lives. After eight weeks of being away from home, and looking in my families eyes knowing they saw a changed man, an Airman, was the best day of my life.

What advice would you give to new Airmen? The advice I would give a new Airmen would be to hold on to the core values they learned in basic training. Give 100 percent everyday, even when they don't feel like it. Find a mentor in their shop and soak up all their knowledge to become an asset in their career field. Be resilient, motivated and express excellence in all they do.

Supervisor's comments:
"
When Airman 1st Class Dillingham arrived on station, he hit the ground running. His motivation and dedication to his training have been inspiring to his peers. Airman Dillingham dedicates his off-duty time by reading to children at Sollars Elementary School, participating in the Misawa "First Four" organization, and squadron booster club. In addition, he has been pursuing his CCAF degree in Aviation Management. He truly has become an asset to the 35th Fighter Wing as well as the Misawa community."
