7/22/2012 - MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- An Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft went into the water at about 11:30 a.m. today approximately 250 miles Northeast of Hokkaido Island, Japan.
The aircraft was from the 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa Air Base, Japan. One person, the pilot, was on board; efforts are currently underway to retrieve the pilot.
The aircraft was en route to North America when the incident occurred. The cause of the incident is unknown at this time.
