7/13/2011 - SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany - The 52nd Fighter Wing will host an Open House July 30-31.

The gates will open to the public at 10:45 a.m. and will close at 9:30 p.m. July 30 and at 7:30 p.m. July 31. Admission to this event is free.

This year's Open House will have aerial demonstrations by the Viper West Coast Demonstration Team, a single-ship F-16 Fighting Falcon aerial demonstration team and the OV-10B Bronco demo team. Some of the static displays include aircraft like the KC-135 Stratotanker, C-130 Hercules, German Tornado and German air force Eurofighter Typhoon. Ground demonstrations will include a military working dog demonstration, a weapons load demonstration and an explosive ordnance disposal robot demonstration.

People with physical disabilities are asked to park in parking lot A near Binsfeld, as access to the base will be easier. Parking is also available near the northwest expansion area identified as parking lot B and shuttle buses will run from the entrances to the venue. On-base parking will be located on ramp six.

Visitors are prohibited from bringing pyrotechnics; firearms; coolers; glass bottles; knives; blades or sharp objects; weapons; paint; corrosive or explosive chemicals; pets, unless one is needed for assistance; bicycles; roller blades; skates or in-line skates; wheelie tennis shoes; and skateboards.

Hand-carried items like diaper bags; fanny-packs, purses; collapsible strollers; camera, camcorder and media bags; and coolers with personal medications will be searched for prohibited items prior to admittance to the base.

"People attending the event are asked not to bring restricted items," said Master Sgt. Paul Jackson, 52nd Security Forces Squadron Open House representative. "If any restricted items are discovered at the screening areas, our actions can range from asking individuals to return items to their vehicles to detaining or apprehending individuals, depending on the item."

Screening areas will be set up at the entry gates and at the venue to search people attending the Open House. Several screening lanes will be set up, and security forces ask guests to be patient in the screening areas.

U.S. service members, civilian employees, family members and local national employees will be able to sign guests onto the base for the event beginning July 18. Sponsors need to provide their guests' names and Ausweis or passport numbers to the visitor control center to obtain a pass. Up to four names can be put on a single pass, which will be valid for the weekend only.

Local national contractors are not allowed to sign visitors on base for the Open House and must use the off-base parking areas and entry points to enter the base.

Guests need to remain with their sponsor and have the identification used to get the pass on them while at the Open House. Guests are also asked to carpool with their sponsors due to limited parking on base.

Designated smoking areas will be available. Smoking outside these areas is prohibited.

For more information regarding base passes, call the VCC at DSN 452-7414 or police services at DSN 452-7843.
