Feinstein: Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach Must Resolve Labor Dispute

Closures of Ports During Holiday Season Could Hurt the Economy of the Los Angeles Region and Nation

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein (both D-CA) issued a joint statement today calling on both parties in the labor dispute at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to reach an agreement that ends the closures at the ports:

“We urge both sides to come together and resolve this dispute so we can protect the economy of the Los Angeles region, the West Coast and our nation, which will be adversely affected by the closures at these ports.”

Senators Boxer and Feinstein wrote a letter in July to John Fageaux, Jr., President of the Marine Clerks Association, Local 63 and Stephen Berry, Lead Negotiator for Harbor Employers to urge them to reach an agreement in the negotiation of new contract terms for Office Clerical Unit members.
