A Brief Overview

Over the past 3 decades, a growing body of research has shown that there are a variety of programs, practices, and policies that can enhance resilience and reduce risks for the onset of mental, emotional, and behavioral health problems, including substance use. Strategies also exist to support improved health and well-being for all individuals, including those that may already have behavioral health problems. There is much work to be done, however, to bring standard practice up to pace with this expanding knowledge base. The NASMHPD Prevention Center was established in 2011 as a resource for increasing awareness and utilization of sound prevention-based practices. For additional information about the NASMHPD Prevention Center, please contact Pat Shea at pat.shea@nasmhpd.org or 703-682-5191.
