Climate change and related effects are complex; there is no single, 'one-size-fits-all' approach to addressing these issues. Acknowledging this complexity, FHWA focuses its resources on supporting transportation and climate change research and disseminating the results, providing technical assistance to stakeholders, and coordinating its activities within U.S. DOT and with other Federal agencies in the following areas:

FHWA is committed to improving transportation mobility and safety while protecting the environment, reducing GHG emissions, and preparing for climate change effects on the transportation system. FHWA is actively involved in efforts to initiate, collect, and disseminate climate-change-related research and to provide technical assistance to stakeholders. FHWA is also involved in climate change initiatives with the U.S. DOT Center for Climate Change and Environmental Forecasting and other partners.
This web site provides information on FHWA research, publications, and resources related to climate change science, policies, and actions. You will also find some current state and local practices in adapting to climate change and reducing GHG emissions.
