Washington, D.C. – Pocatello City Councilman Brian Underwood will become the next U.S. Marshal for Idaho. Underwood’s nomination has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Underwood has been a member of the Pocatello Police Department and now works as Warden for the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center under the Idaho Department of Correction.

Idaho Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch offered their approval as part of a unanimous consent vote by the Senate. Idaho Congressman Walt Minnick originally proposed Underwood’s nomination and it was accepted by the White House. Crapo, Risch, Minnick and Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson issued this statement following Underwood’s confirmation:

“Brian Underwood will serve our state well in his new role as U.S. Marshal. Brian is an Idaho native and has worked extensively in law enforcement at the city and state level, as an officer and in management. The nomination process has worked well to produce a U.S. Marshal all Idahoans can be proud of. We also want to thank Pat McDonald for his eight years of service as Idaho’s outgoing U.S. Marshal.”

Underwood received an Associate of Arts degree in criminal justice and a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Idaho State University. He holds an Advanced Peace Officer Certification and graduated from the Idaho Certified Public Manager Program. He has served on the Pocatello City Council since 2000 and was Council President from 2006 to 2008.

“I am honored by the nomination by the President and now a confirmation by the Senate,” said Underwood. “I look forward to serving in this important role. Idahoans should be proud of the way our Congressional Delegation works together.”
