Reservoir Purposes
The Nashville District operates ten multipurpose projects (lakes) that comprise the Cumberland River Reservoir System. Each project has a unique set of operating objectives. However, these operating objectives often have conflicting demands for water and require strategic management and coordination to strike a balance that ensures all demands are given full consideration. These purposes include:
- Flood Risk Management
- Commercial Navigation
- Hydropower Production
- Water Supply
- Recreation
- Environmental Stewardship
The most important purpose in the Cumberland River Reservoir System is flood damage reduction. However, not all reservoirs have the ability to store larger amounts of water.
