Research

The Library and Museum make available to the public a rich body of materials that document the lives of President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford, along with U.S. domestic issues, foreign relations, and political affairs.

Textual, film, audio, photograph, and oral history collection research is conducted at the Library in Ann Arbor. Artifact research is conducted at the Museum in Grand Rapids.

Exhibits

The Ford Museum in Grand Rapids is home to a permanent exhibit of almost 12,000 square feet featuring historical artifacts that illustrate the life and times of Gerald Ford. Each year several temporary exhibits that focus on American history or culture are mounted at the Ford Museum. Visitors to the Ford Library in Ann Arbor can also view small-scale temporary exhibits.

Digital Collections

Many important materials from our textual, audiovisual, and artifact collections have been digitized and are now available online. Be sure to check back often as we continue to add new digital content on a regular basis.

Education

The Museum in Grand Rapids offers educational programs for students in grades K-12, and college, including school group tours, theatrical performances, a variety of hands-on experiences, and our annual Gerald R. Ford essay challege. Teacher and pre-service teacher workshops are also available. For more information and resources for teachers and students, visit the Museum’s Online Education Center.

The Library in Ann Arbor provides the opportunity for high school and college students and teachers to explore its collections and understand the historical research process through research experiences either on-site or virtually, as a class exercise or individually. Group tours of exhibit and archival areas can also be arranged. Contact us for more information.

Both sites offer learning experiences suitable for high school and adult audiences through a series of public programs.
