Washington, D.C. – A strong Chinook salmon fishing season provides the backdrop for discussions about salmon recovery this weekend involving Idaho Senator Mike Crapo, Riggins Mayor Bob Crump and members of the Riggins City Council and local outfitters. Crapo will be in Riggins to discuss salmon recovery as well as initiate discussions over local public lands access for area trail users.

Idaho mountain bikers are seeking to maintain access on public lands but are encountering problems when forest plans restrict mechanized, as well as motorized, use on those lands. That may be the case with parts of the popular Rapid River Trail south of Riggins. Crapo will meet with biking groups, Forest Service officials, Idaho conservation groups and others Saturday to discuss a collaborative approach to the solving the access issue.

Crapo discusses salmon recovery and economics; trail access in Riggins:

3:00 p.m. Meets with Central Idaho Mountain Bike Association leaders, local representatives from the Idaho Conservation League and Wilderness Society and U.S. Forest Service regarding trail access. At the Best Western Salmon Rapids Lodge, 1010 South Highway 95.

4:00 p.m. Meets with Riggins Mayor Bob Crump, members of the Riggins City Council and local outfitters to discuss salmon recovery efforts and local economic benefits during the salmon fishing season. At the Best Western Salmon Rapids Lodge, 1010 South Highway 95.
