ROMAN Fire Weather 24-Hour Trend Monitor

ROMAN has been designed for use by fire weather professionals and others requiring access to current fire weather conditions around the nation. Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can be sent to atmos-mesowest@lists.utah.edu.

The Fire Weather 24-Hour Trend Monitor provides access to current and 24-hr trend (change) information for all available weather stations within the selected region for any given time (e.g. current or historical data). The page reloads every 10 minutes when displaying current data. The Trend Monitor displays the most recent observation and the change from 24 hours before. Longer records of each station within the selected region are also available by clicking on a station, then clicking on 'Past Data' in the left hand menu.

Settings

The user can change the settings as follows:

The number of hours for which 24-hr trend information is wanted
region of interest: GCA, County Warning Area, Fire Weather Zone, or State
network type: RAWS, NWS/FAA and RAWS, or all networks

Time

The user can change the valid time in order to access 24-hr trend information for past dates/times. Doing this will:

change the title to "Historic Fire Weather 24-Hour Trend Monitor"
make a link appear that will reset the Trend Monitor back to the current time
change the links to the Station Weather Display such that past data is displayed

Tabular Format

Subregions within the geographic region of interest are defined as follows:

Geographic Coordinating Area: Predictive Service Areas (PSAs)
National Weather Service County Warning Area: forecast zones
National Weather Service Fire Weather Zone: fire weather forecast zones
State: counties

The first column contains the station's name and identifier. Long names are truncated.
The second column contains the station's network name and elevation.
The third column contains the local and UTC time of the observations.
The next six columns contain the current reading of the weather variable followed by the 24 hour change. In the case of wind direction, the current value is given followed by the value 24 hours ago. The variables are Temp: temperature (F), DewT: dew point temperature (F), RH: relative humidity(%), Dir: wind direction, Spd: wind speed (mph) and Gust: peak wind or gust (mph).

Stations are ordered within subregions alphabetically by name. Click on 'Sort by elevation' to list stations within subregions from highest to lowest elevation.
