Lithodes couesi, scarlet king crab
On the 1999 DSV Alvin expedition the scarlet king crab, Lithodes couesi, were common at greater
depths than golden king crab. The juveniles were captured down to 930m, and adults were
common between 530 and 600 m. They were commonly observed on or under rocks, but some were
found on sand/gravel substrates.
