The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is the heart of science and technology for the United States Air Force. AFRL is responsible for developing the systems crucial to aerospace superiority. With a workforce of approximately 9,600 people, the laboratory's wealth of talented individuals help AFRL lead science and technology development through in-house and contractual programs. Additionally, the laboratory outsources approximately 75% of its budget to industry, academia, and the international community - leveraging the world's knowledge to provide the most innovative science and technology to the Air Force.
AFRL maintains a diverse portfolio of science and technology ranging from basic research to advanced technology development focusing on three specific products; target research to shape the future battlespace, integrated technology options to satisfy identified Air Force requirements, and rapid technology solutions to meet urgent operational needs. The laboratory also plays an important role in ensuring timely, reliable, and economical production and sustainment of Air Force systems as the manager of the Air Force Industrial Preparedness in manufacturing technology and industrial base analysis. The Laboratory Demonstration Project obtained the authority from the Office of Personnel Management to waive existing Federal human resources management law and regulations in title 5, United States Code, and title 5, Code of Federal Regulations. This authority allows the Demonstration Project to identify, develop and test innovative personnel processes for AFRL's scientist and engineer (S & E) workforce. The Air Force Laboratory Personnel Demonstration is a series of initiatives (called "interventions") covering the acquisition, sustainment, separation, and resource allocation of AFRL's professional civilian Science & Engineering workforce. SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROFESSIONALS WITH ADVANCED DEGREES (MASTER'S OR HIGHER)
Positions open to applicants with advanced degrees in scientific and engineering fields are being filled under the Direct Hire Authority at Personnel Demonstration Laboratories. Applicants must submit resume, official transcripts or statement from the institution's registrar; dean or other appropriate official; or equivalent documentation which confirms completion of requirement for the required degree and unofficial transcripts and if a veteran, a copy of your DD-214. If you are eligible for 10-point veterans' preference, attach an SF-15 (Application for 10-point Veterans' Preference) plus proof required by that form, i.e. Letter from the VA stating percentage of disability. Applications will be kept on file for 90 days.

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT:
Student Temporary Employment Program provides federal employment opportunities to students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load at an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2- or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. For the STEP program, the nature of the work does not need to be related to the students' academic or career goals; however, most students AFRL employs major in technical fields such as electrical and computer engineering, mathematics and physics.
