October 17, 1997 EDITORS AND CORRESPONDENTS The Federal Highway Administration is pleased to announce a new publication available to the
public providing tips on what questions to ask when chartering a motorcoach. The trifold pamphlet entitled
"
The Safe Transportation of Passengers by Motorcoach--And What
It Means to You"
suggests that tour organizers ensure that:
- The motorcoach company's drivers hold valid commercial drivers' licenses;
- The driver or drivers can make the charter trip without violating regulations that prescribe how
many hours they may drive and must rest; and
- The carrier is certified by the FHWA to provide interstate service and has the prescribed
minimum of $5 million in public liability insurance.
Free copies may be obtained from the Office of Motor Carriers' regional office in the Leo W.
O'Brien Federal Building, Albany, N.Y. 12207 (telephone: 518-431-4239). Sincerely yours, George L. Reagle
