Tribal Environmental Health Research Program

The National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) supports research that focuses on the assessment and reduction of risk in susceptible populations. Tribal populations may be at an increased risk for environmentally-induced diseases as a result of unique lifestyle practices of the tribe, community activities, occupations and customs and/or environmental releases that significantly impact tribal lands.

NCER's Tribal Environmental Health Research Program has supported studies to better understand the health effects of environmental contaminants on tribal populations. Through its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) grants program, NCER has awarded funding in various research areas that explore such environmental risks, particularly cumulative chemical exposure and global climate change affecting tribes.
