Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

What is a NICU?
N.I.C.U. Is the acronym used to describe the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A NICU is a hospital unit containing a variety of sophisticated mechanical devices and special equipment used for the management and care of premature and seriously ill newborns. (Mosby, 1998, p. 1092)

Mission Statement:
To provide quality healthcare & support the family unit. Dual mission: provide care to premature babies and support labor and delivery with all cesarean deliveries.

NICU Staffing:
Staffing includes two board certified Neonatologists and four Neonatal Nurse Practitioners who provide 24/7 in-house coverage for the NICU and labor rooms. Our complete staff includes licensed registered neonatal nurses and licenced credential respiratory therapists who provide continuous bedside care for our patients.

Population:

• Active duty, retired and dependant females/infants
• Infants 30-42 weeks gestation delivered @ WAMC

Ancillary  Staff:
Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Audiologist, Nutritionist, Development Specialist
